After completing my BSc in Natural Science at the University of Napoli “Federico II” (Italy), I become interested in forest ecology. I completed my MSc at the University of Roma “La Sapienza” (Italy) with a thesis on the ecology of a forest bird specialist. Afterwards, I successfully defended my PhD dissertation on the influence of forest management on the bird assemblages of temperate forests, at the University of Freiburg (Germany). In between, I joined several research groups mainly focused on the ecology of forest vertebrates, in boreal, temperate and tropical forests. Birds are the taxon that I am most experienced with, but my publication record includes also amphibians and mammals. I currently work on a project on woodpeckers at WSL, in collaboration with the Swiss Ornithological Institute.
