  • May 2002: Master’s degree ("Diplom-Biologe") at the University of Tübingen, Germany. Final grade: 1.16. Thesis: The suitability of young forest stands on former wind-throw areas in the northern Black Forest as habitat for Hazel Grouse Bonasa bonasia– a comparison with forest stands inhabited by the species in the southern Vosges Mountains.   • 2011 - 2012: Research Associate (Green Peafowl). World Pheasant Association (WPA). 
  • 2011 - 2012: Part-time PhD study "Ecology and conservation of Green Peafowl Pavo muticus in Cambodia" at the Department of Wildlife Ecology and Management, University of Freiburg, co-supervised by Prof. Dr. Ilse Storch (University of Freiburg) and Dr. Peter Garson (Newcastle University, UK).
  • 2008 - 2010: Each spring, Research Assistant ("Experienced Bird Handler") in a PhD study on the critically endangered Bengal Florican Houbaropsis bengalensis blandini in Cambodia. University of East Anglia, UK, and Wildlife Conservation Society Cambodia Program. Capture of male and female floricans for satellite tagging.
  • 2007: ‘C’ bird ringing license issued by the British Trust for Ornithology.
  • 2006: Collaboration in a RAS- (Retrapping Adults for Survival) study on the Stonechat Saxicola rubicola in Thetford Forest, Norfolk, UK.
  • 2003 - 2005: Autecological study on the locally threatened Stonechat on Jersey Island.
  • 1997 - 2003: Organisation of Juniper Juniperus communis heathland management in Albstadt-Onstmettingen, south-western Swabian Jura, southern Germany, with the aim of restoring regionally threatened fauna and flora specialised on this habitat type. Initiator of the "Project Woodlark" Lululla arborea ("Projekt Heidelerche") in 2001, an ongoing local conservation project involving various stakeholders.
  • 1995 - 1996: Civilian service at the "Vogelschutzzentrum Mössingen", Mössingen, southern Germany, a NABU (Naturschutzbund Deutschland) bird rehabilitation and conservation centre.
  • 1994 - 2002: Active member of the "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Wanderfalkenschutz" (AGW), a NABU conservation group dedicated to the restoration of Peregrine Falcon Falco peregrinus in southern Germany. Annual monitoring of up to ten breeding pairs in my area, ringing of nestlings (2001 & 2002).
  • 1990 - 2002: Various small-scale conservation activities and surveys of rare species (birds, amphibians, reptiles) in my home area around Albstadt in southern Germany. Participation in field projects abroad, e.g. documentation of the electrocution of birds at power lines (2001, Poland), international volunteer camp to help curbing the illegal hunting of migratory birds (1995, northern Italy)
  • Since the mid-1980s: Bird nest finding and nest monitoring.
